Recap of last week in case you missed it…..
There was a man who had two sons. One of his sons told his father he didn’t want to wait until his father died, he wanted his inheritance NOW!
So, the father gave him his portion and the son immediately nicked off and wasted it all on “wild living”! (I’ll let you interpret what that means!)
Then he found himself totally broke and hungry, and ended up feeding pigs. He was so hungry in fact, that he found himself envious of the pigs’ food!
He came to his senses and thought he’d go home and ask his dad if he could work for him as a hired hand.
When his father saw him coming home, he RAN to meet him, embraced him and kissed him. He put the best clothes on him and threw a big party to celebrate his return!!
But…..his older brother was not so happy about this turn of events!
He was angry that the father would welcome his brother back home ‘after all he had done’.
Jesus was addressing the attitudes of the religious people; those more concerned with rules and laws, rather than love and compassion.
He tells this story to show that God welcomes us all, no matter who, no matter what!
That’s GRACE, not religion.
Let us return “home” to our Heavenly Father, and enjoy the undeserved favour of God.
He loves us. Oh, how He loves us!
