There was a man who had two sons. One of his sons told his father he didn’t want to wait until his father died, he wanted his inheritance NOW!
So, the father gave him his portion and the son immediately nicked off and wasted it all on “wild living”! (I’ll let you interpret what that means!)
Then he found himself totally broke and hungry, and ended up feeding pigs. He was so hungry in fact, that he found himself envious of the pigs’ food!
He came to his senses and thought he’d go home and ask his dad if he could work for him as a hired hand.
When his father saw him coming, he RAN to meet him, embraced and kissed him. He put the best clothes on him and threw a big party to celebrate his return!!
I find it interesting that the father didn’t wait until his son cleaned himself up! He fell on him and embraced him, stinking pig-slop and all!
He also didn’t make the son “earn his way back into the family”, or to prove himself first; He threw a party and gave him the best he had! The best clothing, the best food, the best of everything.
Jesus told this story to illustrate God’s love for us! You can find it in full, in Luke 15:11-32.
We don’t have to “clean our act up” before we come to God.
He is watching and waiting for us to turn “home”, and the minute we do He is ready to embrace us, and love on us, and welcome us back to our rightful place in His family!
